Our island

Geologically, the South Island of New Zealand was created by the combined forces of the ice age and tectonic plate activity. The results are the magnificent Southern Alps, the hanging valleys and crystal clear waters of the Southern Lakes region, a rocky, wild and pristine coastline black with iron ore on the West Coast and golden on the East, deeply carved fiords and steaming hot springs.

Diverse and vibrant
Touring the South Island you’ll be astounded by the rapidly changing scenery as you drive south from the beaches, sounds and plains of the top of the island to the foothills of the Southern Alps then traverse from the East coast to the West across the fertile Canterbury Plains, climb across the great divide then descend steeply to the wild and rugged West Coast; a clear favourite among Limousine Services’ driver guides.

Rainforest, glaciers tumbling towards the sea and bush clad beauty accompanies the trip south as again you cross the mountains to enter the breathtakingly beautiful Southern Lakes region.

From the wilds to wine
Further south you’ll cross the gentle hills of Southland to access the powerful scenery and primeval wilderness of Fiordland – home to the fiords including Milford and Doubtful Sounds, while east of Queenstown are the moody, golden hills of Central Otago, home to one of the world’s greatest Pinot Noir producing regions.

Just a stone’s throw away are the untouched South Coast and Catlins areas, offering rare wildlife encounters and deserted beaches.
